A recipe that fits your mould

Write a recipe once as percentages and choose a mould: Soap Studio works out how much batter fills it and sizes every ingredient, lye and water included. Change the mould and the whole recipe resizes. Every lye figure matches well-known online lye calculators to the decimal place, when they're set to the same lye purity.

Alternatives

Out of an oil? Swap it

Most soap calculators leave you to work out a substitute yourself. Soap Studio does it for you.

Every oil in a recipe has its alternatives one tap away. Soap Studio compares the fatty-acid make-up of every oil in your library and shows the closest matches, best first. Each comes with a match score and the ways it differs - "Higher in Lauric (+12%)" - so you can see what a swap will do to the bar before you make it. Choose one and it takes the old oil's place; the lye is worked out again.

Track your stock and the oils you already have come first, with how much is on hand. And if a recipe needs more of something than you've got, Soap Studio says so and offers the similar oils you do have - or, for a fragrance or a colour, the others already in your cupboard.

Moulds and cutting

How many bars, and where to cut

Describe each mould once and Soap Studio shows how many bars it gives, what each weighs fresh and cured, and exactly where to cut. Set a minimum bar weight and it never offers you a bar lighter than that.

  • Box and pipe moulds, in millimetres or inches
  • Silicone or odd-shaped moulds measured by weighing them full of water
  • A cutting diagram, with bar thickness and loaf width you can set per mould
  • The top of the soap is never cut

Fragrance you can trust

Enter your supplier's IFRA Category 9 (soap) limits and every recipe is checked against them on the right basis: as a share of the finished soap, the way the limits are published. The Fragrance Blend Builder works out the safe limit for a blend of several fragrances.

195 oils, butters and waxes with fatty acid profiles, plus liquids, additives and lyes. Add your own, give anything a price, and hide what you never use.

Every ingredient is costed, so the cost per bar is the real one. Enter a sell price and the markup and profit follow, on the bars you actually cut once you've counted them. All optional, and never in the way if you don't use it.
